Cat Distribution system - What to do when you find a kitten!

🐱 It’s kitten season… and that tiny “meow” outside might just be the cat distribution system choosing you!

If you have an intact cat, you’ve probably already noticed a change in their behavior.

Spring not only brings blooming flowers, it also just might bring you a kitten. So what do you do if you find one?

First determine the kittens age and if there’s a mom near by. If kitten has its eyes closed is not crying and feels warm to the touch, then leave it alone. Neonates do best being raised by mom.

Need help determining age, check out kittenlady.org for a ton of great information include a diagram for aging

If the kitten is 4 weeks or younger, they can not regulate their body temperature and will need a heat source. Bringing them inside and providing them with a snuggle safe or other heat source could save their life. And never feed or bath a cold kitten. They must to be warmed up first.

Kitten and neonates have different food requirements based on weight and age. If you choose to keep a found kitten, I recommend you get a gram scale to ensure they are gaining weight and eating the right amount.

If kitten is too feral for you to catch consider contacting your local animal shelter to see if they offer assistance with care and spay neuter programs.

If kitten has fleas, contact your local vet for topical and oral treatments. Flea shampoos are NOT safe for babies, so please don’t use them.

💕 A tiny kitten can change your day—but the right information can save their life. Check out kittenlady.org for guidance. And congratulations on being chosen!
